Feminine Fashion Files: Episode 3, Chazlyn Yvonne
Welcome to Feminine Fashion Files, where we go behind the scenes with your favourite hyper-feminine fashion influencers as they reveal style secrets and explore what being a girly girl means to them.
Chazlyn Yvonne is a 23 year old content creator known for her ethereal and princess-esque outfits. With over 89,000 followers on Instagram (@chazlyn.yvonne), Chazlyn describes her style as ‘’whimsical and hyper-feminine.’’
What does hyper-femininity and being a girly girl mean to you?
‘’Embracing the things that make me happy and not being afraid to be ‘over the top’’’
How long have you been a content creator, and what inspired you to start creating hyper-feminine content?
‘’I started content creation during the pandemic after having to move back home from college for a bit due to Covid. I started creating mostly “cottage core” content and found a whole community of other girls who also enjoyed the style! Eventually, my content started blowing up and I realized that there aren’t a lot of other black women in the space. Fast forward to now, I moved back to college, graduated, and became a full-time content creator!’’
Are there any particular brands or style icons that inspire your hyper-feminine outfits?
‘’Selkie has played a huge role in my growth as a creator and has served as major inspiration for me during these past three years. They are one of my favorites and I love how inclusive they are.’’
What style tips would you give to someone who wants to start dressing in the girly aesthetic?
‘’My main style tip is that accessories are everything! Bows, ribbons, hair clips, jewelry, are all great staples to have [when] building hyper-feminine outfits.’’
Have you ever experienced any backlash or challenges when creating hyper-feminine content on social media?
‘’Content creation is not an easy job at all. It’s a lot of numbers, tricky, algorithms, bias, and judgment from people you don’t even know. On the flip side, it allows me to be creative and I’m so thankful to have a job that I genuinely love.’’
What are some of your favourite outfits you’ve posted on Instagram?
‘’My pinned posts on my platforms are definitely my favorite! For Instagram specifically, I started out posting photos and got most of my traction from that. My first few viral photos are some of my favorites.’’
Do you have any other comments about the hyper-feminine aesthetic or being a hyper-feminine influencer?
‘’Creating this type of content has been one of the most rewarding parts of my entire life. I love hearing stories from other people about how I inspired them to dress up more or embrace a new style and encourage anyone wanting to try it out to just do it! We need more representation of feminine styles on POC and I hope that my content can contribute to even a small percentage of that change.’’
